What a wonderful place! my wife and I along with our 2 children, and two other couples stayed for a week. Everyone loved it. The photos do not do justice to the lodge or the surrounding view. The lodge is spacious and beautiful. The kitchen is marvelous( I love to cook). The beds are comfortable, the showers are great, the floors are heated.......etc......
If you want to spend some time relaxing, and watching wildlife, you don't have to leave the property. We couldn't come up with anything even close to negative about this place. 8 thumbs up from our group!! Thanks again, Steve

Thank You! Our family spent Christmas at the Lodge and it was wonderful. There was 17 of us and there was plenty of room for all. The play room with toys was great for the kids. While the pictures on the website are helpful they do not fully do the property justice. Every room has a breath taking view. Thank you so much for making our family Christmas magical.

My family, 16 of us, stayed at this property over the Thanksgiving week. The house was not only comfortable, but completely beautiful. We really enjoyed our stay and will be glad to visit again. We will be happy to tell our friends about this wonderful property.
Thank you, Marty and Scott for your assistance and accomodating my family so well.

A group of co-workers and I rented the lodge recently. First of all, the website pictures do not do this property justice! The views cannot be photographed to truly show its awesome splendor. The lodge was beyond our expectations in every way. We had ample room within the lodge and separate rooms for each. Everything was of the highest quality from the furniture and appliances to the towels. We could not have imaged the beauty of the lodge and its surroundings. The rock fireplaces were large and stunning. We saw wildlife nearly everyday (a group of elk, a red-tailed hawk, deer and some turkeys). We all agreed we wanted to visit again with our husbands. We’ve already begun to plan next years outing with our partners and would not consider renting anywhere else in Durango. Our communications with the owner, Marty, were always professional and courteous as well as with the caretakers Scott & Chris. Having sugar, cream, tea and other staples were a nice touch, the washer & dryer came in handy also. Highest praise in everyway! I’m going to have the CEO of my company take a look here for our next corporate retreat. Thank you so much for making this wonderful property available to us, we can’t wait to return!

We brought together our entire family in celebration of our 50th wedding anniversary, and we couldn't have come to a better place. Durango provided activities for everyone’s tastes and needs. And Rincon Lodge exceeded our expectations. Its isolated location and the exciting approach to the lodge added to our sense of adventure. The deck views are spectacular, making breakfast and lunch on the deck quite special. And we viewed wonderful rainbows from the deck later in the day on three separate occasions. The main lodge rooms are spacious and were the site of simultaneous scrabble and monopoly games. The kitchen is very well equipped and easily supported the preparation of daily gourmet meals for fifteen people. The upstairs playroom was the site of great ping-pong tournaments, as well as a safe place for kids to horse around. And the lodge is so kids-friendly that we didn't even unpack most of the toys we schlepped for our little ones. Finally, we are grateful to Scott and Chris, the caretakers, who were very helpful in providing information about the lodge as well as area activities and directions.

We had a perfect family vacation at the Rincon Lodge with our kids and extended family last month! Thanks to Marty for offering to share this wonderful and peaceful home with us. The setting and views are exceptional, we saw deer foraging around the house almost every evening. Toys and books for the kids made for a nice surprise, we also had a ping pong tournament to pass the time during a short afternoon rain shower. We'll be back again next summer, thanks again for a truly memorable visit!

while on the surface, our groop had a pleasurable stay at the rincon lodge last month (july 2006), we soon found out that the renter has another agenda or he has been misled by his caretaker.
as a group, we have rented facilities for almost 30 years. we are all college graduates, military officers, have professional careers and do not enter into a rental lightly.
when we do rent we feel it is our responsibility to enter a rental as a joint effort with the renter. as a result, we notify the agent when there is a problem with some part of the facility.
this seems to be the area of misunderstanding with the owner when we rented Rincon lodge.
when we notified the caretaker that something was broken, apparently it was interpreted that we broke it. sorry, but if there was an item that was broken due to our neglect, we would certainly have the courage to admit we were responsible. that was not the case here. if they find something out of order no matter the origination, you will be blamed.
this owner withheld several hundred dollars of security deposit for items we brought to their attention and it may be part of their pattern for increasing revenue.
we had an agreement if we did not use the garage(not worth the money if you are thinking of it), we would not be charged. not the case here - money withheld.
it rained all week and with a dirt access road, any car would have muddy tires. we swept the garage clean, but did not use an ice scraper to remove all the dirt-extra cleaning fee.
the list goes on but you get the drift.
the owner will cajole you into a seemingly normal rental, the caretakers act like it is your rental, but stand back when it is time to check out.
not only the first time in thirty years we did not receive our full deposit, but also the first time we have been anything but complimented on the way we left the property.
if you do rent this, check everything in and out of the house, appliances, fans, doos, grills, etc. if there is a problem, it will be blamed on you.

Homeowner Response:
Out of 67 previous guests from 2002 to the present, this is a first for us. Mr. Gillaspie (we do not know who Jeffrey Hall is) had a total of $100.00 taken from his deposit to repair a door handle a member of his party destroyed and additional cleaning charges as outlined in the contract, not "several hundred" as stated. The door handle was removed by the guest. Upon reinstallation it was found to be twisted to the point of inoperability. Damages need to be repaired in preparation for arriving guests, we have no need or desire to "increase revenue" to the tune of $100.00 risking a comment such as this, we do expect our guests to admit responsibility. We did not at any time address dirt in the garage, no part of the deposit was withheld to clean it. Charges for excessive cleaning were concisely itemized. We had a contract with Mr. Gillaspie to lease the guesthouse in conjunction with the Lodge which clearly requires notification to us in case of changes. Only when his partial deposit was released did Mr. Gillaspie notify us, well after his arrival home. We represent on our website the availability of the extra quarters for larger groups, if it is not desired, we don't add it to the contract. We have no need to "cajole" a guest to stay with us, we are proud to offer the finest property in Southwest Colorado to people worldwide. If any potential guest would like to view correspondence with Mr. Gillaspie, please email us. Our sincerest apologies go out to Mr. Gillaspie’s party, we strive to insure all guests have a 100% positive experience. We work diligently to avoid damage disputes if any are noted, obviously in this case we were unsuccessful in our attempts to reach an amicable solution.

What a great location for a relaxing family vacation! All 27 of us had plenty of space and we were all thoroughly entertained the entire time we were there. We'll definitely come back for the next reunion! It was just a short drive (10-15 min) into downtown Durango, and we were just far enough out that it seemed 'outdoorsy'. Thanks for everything Marty!

The lodge was lovely! Being from Phoenix we were expecting drafts and cold floors. We were pleasantly surprised. The plants everywhere were gorgeous and the cabin had a real "homey" feel. What you advertised on the internet was what we found.

Thanks to Scott for talking me through Durango and on to the Jeep dealership. I was traversing the city, lost, when I called him and he got me to where I needed to go. I meant to write a note, but we wound up leaving in the middle of the night so do, please, tell him how much I appreciated his help. Have a good Christmas!

Rincon provided five couples a great opportunity to get out of the Houston heat and humidity for three weeks. The thing we will remember most is having a before dinner drink on the porch and enjoying the fantastic views that the lodge provides along with some beautiful sunsets. The lodge provided everything we needed for our group of ten. Scott was always there for our extra needs, which were few. We never lacked for things to do in the Durango area for our stay. Rincon Lodge enabled my family and my sister's family to rendezvous for an annual family vacation/reunion in a beautiful location- under the same roof! In past years we were located in separate rental homes. Being under one roof with plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms and all the amenities really allowed for long talks and competitive late night
domino games. With a 2 year old and 7 month old needing a lot of diversion, we were ecstatic to find a variety of toys at the ready, as well as reading material, to keep them
occupied. When the oldest in our group was experiencing tightness in the chest, Scott gave directions to the hospital and we were most impressed with the immediate
attention he received. His blood pressure was soon lowered to a safer level. We all wish to thank you Marty, Scott and Chris for making our experience so memorable.

I would like to say that our stay was more than we could ever have hoped for. When we arrived Scott had lit a fire, everything was perfect. We had a wonderful time and I'm glad you found the house in good order. We tried to leave it as we would have our own and felt honored that you would rent out such a beautiful home. We felt so good and at home in it. We had some wonderful walks and more than enough snow. We went skiing 3 days, snowmobiling and even took a sleighride with dinner. There is so much to see we'd like to come back, maybe in the summer to do the Silverton railroad trip, Mesa Verde and the Hot Springs. I hope we will have the good fortune to be able to rent your house again. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and had a wonderful time in your beautiful home.

Mr. Koger,

I just wanted to let you know that our family had a GREAT time over Christmas at your lodge. Of course the stay was not long enough, but is it ever? The Internet pictures do not do your property justice. The sunrises were unbelievable each day and it was a great way to wake up. Chris and Scott greeted us the first evening we were there and filled us in on a few things. They had decorated the house with garland, bows and lights. They told us where to look for a tree and the whole family went out on Christmas Eve and cut one. The kids (young and old) had a blast with the decorating! We will definitely recommend this site to our friends and we'd love to go back ourselves. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

It was very private and did not seem crowded with all of us there. The house was beautiful and had everything we needed.
